Bruce Brockstein, the Kellogg Cancer Center Director at the NorthShore University HealthSystem gave an invited guest lecture on April 26. His talk – Clinical Oncology Now and the Near Future: An Engineering-trained Perspective. After discussing the road taken to get to his chosen profession, Dr. Brockstein discussed in-depth how he uses his engineering background to address clinical challenges. “Fundamentally, I think of things as an engineer with multiple systems or in a problem-based way”, he said.  During the talk, he provided an overview of clinical oncology, followed by an overview of incidences and possible associated deaths. Before ending he highlighted various perspectives that could be taken and encouraged the audience, “To do things in a critical way to come up with real solutions”.
