Rohit Bhargava, CCIL Director, and Georgina Cheng, Carle gynecological oncologist, are taking the first step toward a technological discovery by proving the concept. It’s happening in the controlled environment of the Bhargava lab, where tissue samples from patients recruited by Dr. Cheng are being examined at a microscopic level. The team will use that information plus fundamental advancements in chemical imaging and machine learning, such as algorithms and artificial intelligence, to inform the development of what could be a groundbreaking tool for understanding tissue structure and cancer pathology.
