William Helferich investigates diet-correlated breast cancer growth and progression with a specific interest in botanical estrogens from soy and other dietary supplemental sources. He also has interest in how thermally abused oil can alter breast cancer metastasis using preclinical models.
Helferich obtained a BS in Nutrition at Ohio State University and his MS in Dairy Science/Nutritional Science from the University of Maryland. He earned his PhD in Nutrition from the University of California at Davis. Helferich is the director of the NIH funded Botanical Research Center at UIUC entitled “Botanical Estrogens: Mechanisms, Dose and Target Tissues.”
