Research Focus
Much of Kathleen Colegrove’s research focuses on diseases of free-ranging marine mammal populations. Her primary interests are to elucidate the effects of anthropogenic influences on marine mammal health, including how human-related factors and climate change may play a role in non-infectious and infectious diseases. For the past 20 years, Colegrove has investigated cancer in California sea lions and the roles that a herpesvirus, Otariine herpesvirus-1, and organochlorine contaminant exposure play in cancer development.
