He is a proven scientific entrepreneur with strong business acumen, as evidenced by his ability to translate innovative technologies into impactful ventures. Akin has deep expertise in cancer nanotechnology, infectious diseases (particularly RNA viruses), and advanced molecular imaging, coupled with exceptional strategic leadership, multi-center program management, and impactful partnership development skills. Before coming to the University of Illinois, Demir was the Deputy Director of the Center for Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence for Translational Diagnostics at Stanford University.
