Can dogs help cure cancer? This is the question explored in the Emmy-nominated PBS documentary “Shelter Me: The Cancer Pioneers,” featuring Cancer Center at Illinois (CCIL) Associate Director for Translational Research and Development Timothy Fan.
Clinical trials of dogs with cancer being treated with immunotherapies are leading to new treatments for people. Leading scientists from world-renowned institutions such as the National Institutes of Health, the National Cancer Institute, and universities across the country provide a powerful reminder of the unbreakable bond between humans and animals.
“Shelter Me” was nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Daytime Special and Outstanding Writing Team for a Daytime Non-Fiction Program.
