Multimodal Biomedical Imaging Shared Resource

The Multimodal Biomedical Imaging (MBI) offers access to the suites of imaging instrumentation at the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology (IGB) and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology.

Beckman Institute Core Facilities

The Beckman Institute is home to four core research facilities that researchers across campus, across the nation, and around the world use.

Biomedical Imaging Center

BIC is a state-of-the-art imaging facility that develops and applies cutting-edge techniques. Staff members employ advanced MRI, optical imaging, and more to address questions about the structure and function of systems across a variety of disciplines.

Microscopy Suite

The Molecular Imaging Laboratory’s staff members guide researchers through molecular imaging techniques on a range of tools, including a Vector PET/SPECT/CT and PerkinElmer IVIS Spectrum CT live-animal imaging system.

Molecular Imaging Laboratory

The Microscopy Suite offers a range of imaging modalities, and supporting equipment is available for the preparation, imaging, and analysis of microscopic specimens.

Visualization Laboratory

The Vis Lab supports a variety of imaging and visualization tools for research, including ultra-high-speed video, 3D animation, high-resolution 2D scanning, publication graphics, and more.

IGB Core Facilities

IGB’s Core Facilities are state-of-the-art resources for biological microscopy and image analysis. The facility’s core mission is to provide IGB faculty and faculty from across campus with the tools and expertise to meet their imaging goals. In addition to providing technical assistance with acquiring and analyzing microscopy images, the staff can also aid in designing and interpreting experiments. The facilities offer access to high-end equipment, user training, ongoing support (experiment design, data interpretation, image analysis, and more), and twenty-four-hour access.

All scientific work performed by the Carl R. Woese Institute of Genomic Biology of the Beckman Institute is required to be acknowledged in scholarly publications, posters, and presentations. Proper recognition allows shared resource staff to measure the impact of their work and supports initiatives in obtaining sponsored funding. In addition, shared-resource personnel who make a substantial intellectual or experimental contribution deserve further recognition as co-authors.
