Membership Responsibilities and Expectations

Your Role as a Member

  • Conduct activities in keeping with the CCIL’s mission, values, and strategic directions.
  • Participate in CCIL education and research program meetings, seminar series, annual retreats, working groups, etc.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in CCIL education and training programs.
  • Highlight cancer focus and relevance in grant applications and publications when appropriate (e.g., include the words cancer, tumor, or oncology, etc. in titles/abstracts).
  • List your CCIL member affiliation when submitting manuscripts, giving talks, and accepting awards and prizes.
  • Utilize CCIL Shared Resources.
  • Acknowledge the use of CCIL Shared Resources and support services in research publications, grant submissions, and presentations/media coverage.
  • Acknowledge CCIL financial or service support as appropriate in research publications and presentations/media coverage.
  • Inform CCIL administrative staff of published papers, funded awards, and honors received to facilitate inclusion in CCIL communications and publicity efforts.
  • Provide CCIL staff with updates to your academic status or biosketch.

Acknowledging the Cancer Center Support Grant

Please remember to acknowledge the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) in your publications, presentations, posters, and press releases. The following text must be used:

“Research reported in this [publication | presentation | poster | press release] was supported by the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health under award number P30CA275774. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the National Institutes of Health.”

Additionally, projects that have utilized the staff, equipment, or software of the Tumor Engineering and Phenotyping, Carver Biotechnology Center, and/or Multimodal Biomedical Imaging Shared Resources since April 1, 2026, should acknowledge the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) award number to comply with NIH requirements (https://grants.nih.gov/policy-and-compliance/policy-topics/federal-funding). The following text must be used:

“Service [X] was provided by the [Tumor Engineering and Phenotyping | Carver Biotechnology Center | Multimodal Biomedical Imaging] Shared Resource at the Cancer Center at Illinois (CCIL), which is partially supported by the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) award number P30CA275774. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the National Institutes of Health.”

NIH Public Access Policy

As of December 2024, the NIH Public Access Policy requires Author Accepted Manuscripts accepted for publication in a journal, on or after December 31, 2025, to be submitted to PubMed Central upon acceptance for publication, for public availability without embargo upon the Official Date of Publication. When an investigator authors a paper supported fully or partially by the CCSG grant, the awardee is required to take these steps:

  • Ensure the paper is openly accessible to anyone who wishes to read or download it via PubMed Central.
  • Add the paper to the investigator’s bibliography in My NCBI.
  • Associate the paper in My NCBI with the CCSG grant that funded the project/research from which the paper arose.
