The Illini 4000 team was featured on WCIA in August, after riders finished their cross-country ride to fight cancer. The group raised more than $60,000 for cancer research and patient support services. The non-profit organization was founded in 2006 and is dedicated to spreading awareness for the fight against cancer. A central part of the Illini 4000 is The Portraits Project, an on-going project since 2007 to document the American cancer experience. The CCIL has been a proud supporter of the Illini 4000 since the institute’s inception, and a portion of the team’s fundraising total is donating to CCIL efforts.
