The Department of Molecular & Integrative Physiology recently promoted Cancer Center at Illinois (CCIL) members Erik Nelson and Nien-Pei Tsai to the rank of full professor. Nelson is the research program co-leader for the CCIL’s Cancer Engineering & Biological Systems (CEB) Program. Tsai is a member of the CEB research program. The CCIL celebrates this significant milestone in the research careers of Nelson and Tsai. Congratulations!
Erik Nelson
Nelson is a trained endocrinologist with specific expertise in nuclear receptor pharmacology. He has made significant contributions to the fields of reproductive physiology, pharmacology, bone biology, and cancer biology. Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women. For this reason, Nelson integrated his expertise in physiology, endocrinology, and in vivo models to pursue translational breast cancer research. The overarching goal of the Nelson lab’s research is to develop novel chemopreventative strategies and lifestyle changes aimed at reducing cancer incidence and mortality. Nelson is also the Co-Leader of the CCIL’s Cancer Research Advocacy Group.
