Gabriel Popescu, professor of electrical and computer engineering, and Chenfei Hu, Illinois graduate student, have collaborated with Colorado State University researchers to develop a new imaging method called harmonic optical tomography. This technique can assist with cancer diagnosis using holographic information to generate 3D images of the interior of microscopic tissues and cells using light patterns. Popescu and Hu’s research can help expand studies in cancer research that currently use 2D imaging.
