Cancer Center at Illinois researchers Zeynep Madak-Erdogan and Erik Nelson tried their hand at dragon boating this summer, with a visit to the Prairie Dragon Paddlers at Homer Lake.

Prairie Dragon Paddlers is a non-profit organization designed to support breast cancer survivors through dragon boating. The group has a named fund at the CCIL and is active in community outreach. Madak-Erdogan and Nelson practiced with the team, then shared an overview of their current research projects.

“The Prairie Dragon Paddlers appreciated hearing about their current research. It feels like hope for the future of treatment and it is very exciting to know that kind of research is being conducted right here at the Cancer Center at Illinois. It was also moving to hear what inspired these researchers to devote their careers to cancer research,” said Kelly Bradham, Prairie Dragon Paddlers Executive Director.
