Michael F. Insana
Michael Insana, PhD, received his PhD in medical physics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1983. He is Professor and Interim Head of the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and faculty of the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology.
His research includes the development of ultrasonic methods for imaging soft tissue viscoelasticity and developing task-based array beamforming techniques for sonographic tumor imaging. He is currently working with interdisciplinary teams to develop new systems-biology techniques aimed at selecting molecular probes for cancer biomarker imaging and targeted therapeutics. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, Acoustical Society of America, the Institute of Physics, and the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. He is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transaction on Medical Imaging.
